Het concept dwong Amon Amarth om ook muzikaal dieper te graven dan anders. Het resultaat is een afwisselende plaat met behalve Hegg’s donderende gebrul en de welbekende genadeloze chugs ook fijne arpeggio’s, en dit allemaal op het ritme van het verhaal. After nine successful albums melodic death metal giants Amon Amarth need no introduction. They first burst upon the scene with the release of their 1998 debut “Once Sent from the Golden Hall’; nearly two decades later, the Swedes have crafted their first concept album with ‘Jomsviking’. Set in the world of the eponymous Viking mercenaries, ‘Jomsviking’ tells the story of a young warrior who vows revenge after the girl of his dreams is married off to another man.
The concept forced the band to dig deeper on a musical level as well. The result is a more varied record where Hegg’s thunderous roar and the familiar unrelenting chugs alternate with arpeggio passages according to the ebb and flow of the narrative. As Amon Amarth continue their campaign of conquest, they will lay siege to FOREST NATIONAL on SUNDAY 30th OCTOBER.
Après neuf albums à succès, plus besoin de présenter Amon Amarth. Leur death metal mélodique a fait fureur pour la première fois en 1998 lors de la sortie de leur premier album intitulé Once Sent from the Golden Hall. Pour leur dixième opus, ces Suédois ont décidé de prendre une autre direction en sortant leur premier album-concept. Jomsviking fait référence à une troupe de mercenaires vikings et raconte l’histoire d’un homme qui jure de se venger alors que la femme qu’il aime est promise à un autre.
Le concept a obligé Johan Hegg à aller plus en profondeur, y compris sur le plan musical. Le résultat est un album varié qui, en plus d’être caractérisé par les hurlements puissants de Hegg et des chugs sans merci, comprend également de jolis arpèges, le tout suivant le rythme de l’histoire. Amon Amarth poursuit sa conquête et sera à FOREST NATIONAL LE DIMANCHE 30 OCTOBRE.
